Why we built this
Loneliness is one of the most under-treated health problems in modern life. The U.S. Surgeon General's 2023 advisory placed its mortality risk on par with smoking up to fifteen cigarettes a day. And yet the response — for older adults especially — has too often been to hand people a screen full of feeds and faces and content that ends up making the isolation sharper, not lighter.
We wanted the opposite. A single call, with one other real person, who chose to be here for the same reason you did. No performance, no scrolling, no comparing yourself to a highlight reel. Just reciprocal conversation — the thing the research keeps pointing at as one of the few responses to loneliness that actually helps.

What does SolaceBee cost?
Free plan: 2 completed calls each month, at no cost. Plus ($9.50/month): 10 calls a month, plus the option to reconnect with someone you've enjoyed talking to. Unlimited ($19.50/month): unlimited calls, reconnect, and video calling. No ads on any plan, ever.
How does the referral process work?
Every SolaceBee member is referred through a partner organization. When you're referred, you'll get an invitation email with a link to install the mobile app. You verify your identity by email or text code, spend a few minutes on a short profile (name, availability, a few conversation preferences), and you're in. There's no public signup, and that's deliberate: everyone on SolaceBee has been vouched for.
Is my information kept private?
Calls are one-to-one and never recorded. What you say in a call stays between you and your match. We collect only what's needed to match you thoughtfully (age range, time zone, availability, a few preferences) and to keep the community safe. We don't share your data with third parties for advertising — SolaceBee doesn't run ads. Photos are never exchanged between members; the app is audio-first by design.
Do I need to be tech-savvy to use this?
No. The app is deliberately simple: one button to talk right now, one to see your scheduled calls, and a small handful of settings. Text is large by default. There's no feed, no algorithm to figure out, no message threads to keep up with. If you can install an app from the App Store or Google Play and follow a short setup, you can use SolaceBee.
What if I don't have a smartphone yet?
SolaceBee today is a smartphone app on iOS and Android — there is no landline or dial-in option. If you're not yet on a smartphone but want to be, many public libraries and community centers offer getting-started help, and partner organizations sometimes include device support in a referral. We may add other ways to join a call in the future, but nothing is available today.
Can my organization or facility get involved?
Yes — senior living communities, community centers, faith organizations, and similar groups can partner with SolaceBee to offer conversation to the people they serve. Use the For organizations form on this page and we'll follow up personally.
